The Process

There are five main issues in every divorce action:
    1.  custody
    2.  visitation
    3.  child support
    4.  splitting up your debts and
    5.  splitting up your assets.

In paternity suits, there are three:
    1.  custody
    2.  visitation, and
    3.  child support.

If you and your spouse/significant other have an agreement on all of these issues, then you can qualify for a cheap, uncontested Houston divorce.

To start the process, one of the parties will meet with a Houston family lawyer at CheapDivorceHouston.com for a free consultation to discuss the potential issues and the agreement between the parties.  Due to conflict of interest concerns, the lawyers at CheapDivorceHouston.com cannot, and will not, represent both parties.

After filing a petition for divorce or a suit affecting parent child relationship, Texas automatically places a 60 day waiting period before the divorce/paternity action can be finalized.  During that period of time, your Houston Divorce / Family Law Attorney will draft all the necessary paperwork to finalize your divorce/paternity action, including all documents necessary to transfer the property in the divorce and all additional documents required by the Court to finalize your divorce.  For example, there are 9 different Courts in Harris County, each with their own local rules and each with their own requirements to finalize your divorce.  The lawyers and attorneys at CheapDivorceHouston.com are familiar with these Courts and know what documents are required to be completed to finalize your divorce  case.

After the documents are complete, the parties sign all the required documents before finalizing the divorce/paternity action.  The party not being represented by the Houston family lawyer at cheapdivorcehouston.com will be required to sign and notarize a waiver of citation, waiving the requirement to be served with the divorce/paternity petition.

After all the documents are signed and notarized and the 60 day waiting period has expired, you will accompany the lawyer to the Court to finalize your divorce/paternity action.
